Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
