Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport After Substantial ATC System Failure

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the facility.

Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
