A man who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She said the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
