Ex- NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Trial
Ex- National Football League star Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge related to a gunfire that took place in May, as his lawyer filing a not guilty response on his behalf.
Jail logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, a highly popular figures in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already filed a formal not guilty response to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday morning for a bail session, Eiglarsh said.
As per his detention order, Brown is alleged of taking a handgun from a protection staffer after a celebrity match contest in May and shooting a couple of shots at a man he had fought with earlier. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that a bullet touched his nape.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was only protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was forced to take were purely in defense against the claimed person’s violent behavior. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his rightful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not promptly apprehended because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a affected party. It only later in May that Nantambu delivered a detailed statement about the event to officers and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the report says.
According to his digital content, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the incident, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “jumped by multiple people who sought to steal my valuables and inflict personal damage to me.”
A level two murder attempt allegation in the state of Florida bears a highest 15-year incarceration penalty and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has dealt with multiple judicial challenges over the years. He previously had been charged of battery of a delivery driver, various abuse accusations, inability to pay parental support and other incidents.
Throughout a recent game with the Buccaneers against the New York Jets, Brown removed his jersey, shoulder pads and accessories and ran off the arena, leading to his dismissal by the franchise and virtually ending his professional journey.
Brown, who completed 12 years in the National Football League, was an elite wide receiver who spent most of his time with the Steelers. During his time, Brown had over 900 catches for above 12,291 yards, the 28th highest of record. He was a 7-time prestigious choice.
