Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found a variety of interesting independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer features a character that is truly a piece of poop trying to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across numerous stages, encounter mini-bosses and visit a market to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, since one wrong move means starting over. Jump off air pockets to propel yourself upward, navigate fragile surfaces, and activate triggers to unlock secret routes. Collect currency to purchase tougher levels where gameplay ramps up.

Visually, the experience shows off eye-catching stages and a killer music score. The simple visual style of moving geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, gaming frequently incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content appears a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant recognition, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible now on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on PC this November.
